Marvelous essay. I wish I could say I write because I’m afraid not to, but it’s the exact opposite. Gah. I hate depression. I have a handful of completed stories, dozens of starts, an entire 3-ring (large) notebook of research for a novel, and all I’ve managed to be consistent with in the last decade is…book reviews.
Not looking for help, just layin’ it out from my end of the line. I’m really happy that you write, otherwise I’d never have gotten to read Demon Theory (and Mongrels, etc.).
Where’d it go!! I love this piece! I wanted to share the post with my class in one of my assignments about short works, and goals and visions and all that jazz. I need to read it again too, said in the non-creepiest way possible.
oh yeah, Automata went away. hm, can’t seem to attach files here—could just give you a PDF of the file. how about a link to the PDF? let me know when/if you’ve got it (just reply here), I’ll delete the file. and maybe don’t post it around? I should get it posted legit somewhere again. it’ll be the third place it’s been, I guess. not counting this temporary link: https://www.demontheory.net/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/Why-I-Write.pdf
and, looks like you have to paste that URL into the address bar, not use it like a real link, who knows why. something with Disqus, I think? anyway, hopefully you somehow get a headsup that I’m in these replies . . .
Yes! I got it, thanks so much! No way, I wont post, but how do I cite it? Dont have a source anymore, and yes I got an email notification for your reply. I’m so happy, thx again.
great, will pull it down. as for citation . . . it originally ran in Stymie, I think? search might turn the vol/issue up? last place was Automata 1. 2018, maybe.
